If you are like a lot of people, you may not know what in-play betting is or how it works. With this brief but detailed introduction to the world of in-play betting you will learn how to place smart wagers to gain a return from games that are already right in the midst of the action!
What is an in-play bet?
Typically, when you place a bet on a sporting event of any kind, you try to catch the market with a decent gap between when you bet and when the game starts. For example, if you see a Football match is happening at 4pm, you would inspect the market and place your bets a few hours prior so you can give yourself some room to check everything over. This is the regular type of pre-match betting we all know and love.
Of course, some people may miss the pre-match market on certain games, or something within the game may change during its play. In response to these issues, the option to bet in play has opened up and a lot of people now use this instead of the regular bets. Let’s say, as an example, you are watching a football match where several places are making a few rough tackles. You could place an in-play bet if you believe the total bookings (yellow/red card) match will exceed the line set by Fitzdares. You could have placed this bet before the match for certain odds, but you never know how fired up the players will be, and so placing the bet in-play could help you win.
What sports can I bet on?
In-play bets are available for most sports you can possibly think of, but there are some smarter options than others when it comes to making the choice. We will explain how and why some of these sports are the best to place in-play bets when compared to others.
Option One: Bet in-play on football
Football is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, sport for bettors worldwide. The number of games that happen daily on a global scale means that bettors always have something to look into. Whether you are betting on the winner of a game, the first goal scorer, how many corners there will be overall, total number of red and yellow cards or so many other options, you will never run out of opportunities to land that winning bet.
The reason that Football is so good for an in play bet is because the conditions in a game, the temperament of the players and so much more can influence the results in a way that could not be predicted prior to the match starting. As mentioned previously, you can bet in-play on certain players to be booked if they are growing in anger or committing excessive fouls, or you can bet on a team to win if they are already leading in the game and you fancy that they will hang on to their lead – even if the team was a big underdog pre-match. If you notice the condition of the football pitch degrading or there is an unexpected change to the weather during the match, it might be an opportunity to bet on two or fewer goals scored in the 90 minutes (under 2.5 goals).
Option Two: Bet in-play on golf
Golf is one of those sports that you either hate or live - a Marmite of the sporting world - but in terms of in-play bets, it is a good option. You can place an in-play outright bet on who will fare best as the final round progresses. Windy conditions? It may be rewarding to side with whoever has the clubhouse lead. You can also bet on what score you think someone will end a game as a bet in play and this could be easier to determine depending on their current form. There is often an option to bet on the three balls in play, where your player just needs to beat the two others he or she teed off with.
It is important to remember that while in-play bets may give you a better chance at winning, there is always a chance your bets will lose, so do not be irresponsible with the amounts you wager unless you can afford to lose them. In-play bets may also have lower odds than betting on something before the game to reflect an increased likelihood of that outcome happening.
